The Antalya area of Turkey is a treasure
trove for visitors, with everything from vibrant bazaars and sparkling blue seas
to excellent sightseeing opportunities. Known as the 'Pearl of the
Mediterranean', Antalya sits in a spectacular, mountain-backed bay on Turkey's
south west coast, ideal for exploring. While you're here visit the lava cities
of Cappadocia, the ruins at Perge and the stunning Taurus mountains.
Antalya is known as the Turkish Riviera. Many people come solely for the
beaches, which are dazzling. There are many kinds of sports activities on offer
including scuba diving, sailing, paragliding and rafting. Away from the beach
you can go mountain climbing, tracking and much more. Saklikent, 50 km from
Antalya is the best winter sports resort, found on the northern slopes of
Bakirli Mountain at an altitude of 1750-1900 meters. In March and April you can
ski in the morning, eat a delicious lunch of fresh fish at Antalya's marina and
sunbath and swim or windsurf in the afternoon.
Antalya has so much history and charm, with a picturesque old town filled with
Byzantine, Roman and Greek houses. Its carpet shops and restaurants are ringed
by ancient city walls, and you can enjoy strolling along the palm-lined
boulevards and yacht marina. Due to the fact that Antalya is a real tourist
centre, there is a great infrastructure, with many bars, shops and discos.
Nightclubs with belly dancing and other entertainment are easy to find -
especially in the luxury hotels. In most cases people who don’t stay at the
hotel are also welcome. Many of Antalya’s bars also function as discos. Having a
good time the whole night is not a problem - anyone who has been to Antalya can
tell you this. Larger hotels with a good bar atmosphere are an excellent
starting point. The old harbour is also the place for many open-air events and
concerts during the summer.
The choice of hotels and holiday apartments in Antalya is extensive. Perhaps you
like the idea of self-catering in Antalya city or maybe you would prefer family
holiday villas in Antalya resorts along the sea front.
